Powers' Movie Reviews

I like going to the theater and seeing movies, like any normal teenager. I don't see as many as I like, but those that I do see, I'll try to post something of a review.

Coming Soon : Pitch Black, Gladiator, American Beauty, Boiler Room, Boys and Girls, Clerks, Cruel Intentions, Deuce Bigalow, Dogma, Half Baked, Hollow Man, MI2, Office Space, Road Trip, Scary Movie, Shaft, Sixth Sense, The Transformers Movie, Varsity Blue, and X-Men

The Whole Nine Yards

Another classic Bruce Willis movie, although he doesn't get the shit kicked out of him like in most of his other movies, the 6th Sense excluded. Matthew Perry was also good in this movie, and the chick from Species is f'ing HOT! The movie had a pretty solid plot, and all of the supporting cast did a good job.

Next Friday - (R)

Dude, one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Weed smoking, and black and hispanic stereotypes galore. I hear the first one was much funnier, but I've yet to see it and I imagine I'll pass judgement at that point in time. I appreciate Ice Cube for the type of humor he puts out.

Overall - 4 stars

Galaxy Quest - (PG) - 2/2/2000

Ok, well first off, they got everything right about Star Trek conventions and how many wackos show up at them. The 4 Trekkie kids were a whole hell of a lot more normal looking then they should have been, but thats to be expected in Hollywood, where everyone looks perfect. I was fairly impressed w/ the special effects, and while I wasn't that enthusiastic about seeing it, it was worth the ticket price so I don't have any regrets.

Sleepy Hollow - (R) - 11/24/99

I took a while to review this movie cuz I really wasn't all that enthusiastic about it. I saw it right after James Bond cuz I didn't have anything better to do that afternoon. It wasn't a bad movie, and it definitely wasn't as scary as the previews made it seem to be. Christina Ricci looked a hell of a lot different, considering I hadn't seen her since the Addams Family stuff. Anyhow, it was a fair Legend of Sleepy Hollow rendition and the action sequences were pretty cool so...

The World Is Not Enough (James Bond #19) - (PG-13) - 11-24-99

Ok, well Pierce Brosnan's 3rd James Bond movie was pretty much on par with his other two movies. The two Bond chicks were pretty good, but as usually Denise Richards was as terrible an actor and as skanky as ever. "If I dont get back, they'll have my ass." Well, duh..... Also, I re-realized that funny fat people are funny just because they are fat, like that fat Russian guy that got his fish egg factory blown to hell. I was kind of disappointed that the new BMW did't do some more cool crap, but the opening speedboat scene made up for it ...... sort of. Also, the deal w/ the stolen Ruskie nuke sub was a little unbelievable. The Russian military is in a shambles, but you cant just walk off with a Victor III, even if you are a captain. Well, that what I've got to say, and just remember ...... "I guess Christmas doesn't "come" only once a year."

The Matrix - (R) - 11/6/99

This is the baddest-ass movie I have ever seen. I got it on CDRs from a friend and watched it on my comp, and well.......dammit it would have been nice to have seen it in a theater. I have a measure of faith in Keeanu Reeves as an actor now, wheras after seeing Chain Reaction, I had none. Nice emphasis on falling shells, specially when Neo has the gatling gun and is shooting the crap out of the agents and the office building. I really couldn't find anything about this movie to knock so........without further adieu....

Overall : 5 stars

The Blair Witch Project - (R) - 11/2/99

Ok, I didn't see this one in a theater, but I watched it in my dark basement so it was decently close. Withough mincing any words or beating around the bush, this movie SUCKED. Rolling Stone says "SCARY AS HELL!" The movie was the least scary thing I've ever seen. I've seen scarier things on the Disney Channel. And I'd have to agree with Chris Rock or whoever in wondering where the other \$59 K supposedly spent in making the movie went. What a worthless piece of crap!

13th Warrior - (R) - 9/17/99

I finally decided to write another review, so whatever. This movie is an adaptation of Michael Crichton's book Eaters of the Dead. Considering it's one of my favorite's of his, I had pretty high expectations going into the theater. Ok, Antonio Banderas is a decent actor, I'll admit that. I enjoyed the movie, although I thought some parts were a little off. It stuck fairly well to the original idea. There was not as much gore as there could have been, but it was OK. Anyhow, it was good, not great, but worth seeing if you liked the book.

American Pie - (R) - 7/26/99

This is a comedy about 4 guys who make a pact to get some before they get out of high school. I was initially hesitant about seeing it with a girl, but not to worry, it was cool (unless the girl you're going with is really uptight about sex). DO NOT, under any circumstances, go with your parents to see this, or watch it as a family movie. Overall, it was hilarious. I laughed through almost the entire thing, even though some parts made me cringe. The relationships put forth by the movie were very well done and realistic. The chicks were appropriately well chosen. My only beef was that the lacrosse in the movie was totally fake, but thats to be expected until lacrosse becomes more widely accepted in the US. I'd have to say the funniest part was where........hmmmm this is a toughie. OK, up there in the running are:
